Eyewitness Children's Encyclopedia from Global Software Publishing has the potential to be a good software product. We had no way of testing the product because we could never get the software to install on our computer.
The error we received each time we tried to run the program was "The sound software is not installed properly or has been disabled. For more information see the README file installed with this program. This title will now terminate."
Within the README file, we found a section that talked about the sound files. The file suggested that you make sure that the "WING" files were located in the windows/system folder, also to check if the "WING" files were in the WINDOWS file. If they were there, then they should be deleted. We followed the directions and the WING32.DLL file was missing, so we found that file and installed it but the program still didn't run.
Then we went into the product support webpage and found some more tips that we followed with no luck.
Update: We were later contacted by Global Sofware Publishing. They informed us the problem is causes by Microsoft's XP security updates. There is a patch available on their website to remedy the problem.
Eyewitness Children's Encyclopedia may be a good product if you can install and use the program. If you do decide to purchase this encyclopedia software product, then remember that the entire program is geared toward a 7 to 11-year-old child.
